Ways to Get More Involved with WalkBike in 2014

Dear WalkBike Frankfort Members and Friends--

It's an exciting time to be a fan of bike- and walkability!  At our general membership meeting in December, we elected new officers; approved a new membership model; previewed a vibrant new logo; approved funds for members to attend Jeff Speck's recent events; received an update on Folkbike activities; and heard about a new partnership with the Franklin County Health Department to begin work on a sidewalk prioritization plan. And did we mention that WalkBike Frankfort got a check for $2300 from Bill Cull of the Grand Theatre for our GABRAKY support?  Whew!

But now that 2014 is here, it's time to get to work.  And that's how you can help!  Please pick an issue, any issue, and send us an e-mail indicating your interest.

We're looking for someone to chair the GABRAKY event; a new PR/Outreach/Membership chair; folks to help with the sidewalk prioritization community meetings.  We need citizens to contact local elected officials and let them know how much a walkable city means to them.

Want to improve your cycling skills and confidence?  The Folkbike ReCyclery will be arranging Traffic Skills 101 and 102 classes, perhaps in coordination with the Bluegrass Cycling Club.  We need trained instructors who can go on to teach classes in our Frankfort community.

Don't mind getting your hands dirty?  Be a volunteer bike mechanic, check out trail-building opportunities, lead a mountain bike ride.

Like the limelight?  We still have funds available for public service announcements.  You can be screenwriter, director and star of a 30 second spot that promotes safe cycling.

Have a favorite walk that you'd like to share with others?  Let us know and we'll help you organize a walkabout.

Are you a GIS geek?  We want to develop a Bike Friendly/Preferred Routes Guide for Frankfort residents and visitors.

And back to that new logo and membership model-- stay tuned for more information and website updates in the coming weeks!  It'll be easier than ever before to join and show your support for our mission of making Frankfort the best city in the Commonwealth for pedestrians and bicycle riders!

Happy Trails!
