WalkBike Frankfort is busy celebrating National Bike Month! Last week we were at Second Street School for Bike to School Day. Principal Greg Lawson cut the ribbon on a new bike rack and WalkBike members handed out all kinds of goodies including blinky lights, water bottles, donuts and yes, free helmets! We'd like to recognize the National Safe Routes to Schools Program and Schwinn Bicycles, whose $1000 mini-grant helped make it all happen. And of course, Troy Hearn, our amazing state-wide bicycle/pedestrian coordinator at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. This Friday, May 15, is Bike to Work Day and once again, we've teamed up with the friendly baristas at the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe to provide free breakfast treats to anyone whose bicycle commute takes them downtown. Just tell them you're on your bike and get a free muffin, scone or sausage biscuit and coffee. Not to be outdone, our very own Folkbike ReCyclery turns five years old this weekend! Party with a live-on-bike concert ride; meet in front of the Coffeetree Cafe at 5:00 and do the Frankfort boogie with Billy and the Kid aka Billy Dunigan and Jas Barnard. Interested in volunteering? Here are some upcoming events that we need your help with:
Hope to see all of you soon! Happy Trails from your WalkBike Frankfort Board- Donna Hecker, Brent Sweger, Nathan Rome, Don Stosberg, Sellus Wilder, Stuart Harrod |
