WalkBike Happenings

Dear Frankfort WalkBikers-

Yaaay for the cooler temperatures and sunny skies this week!  Perfect weather for a walk or bike ride!

Thanks to all who came out for last Saturday's concert ride with Chris Fallis and friends; it was a great time!  If you missed this one, don't worry, it won't be the last.

Please join us on Thursday at the Paul Sawyier Public Library at 5:30pm for a public meeting on way-finding in Frankfort.  Be prepared to offer your input on can't miss sights in Frankfort, especially the ones only accessible on foot or by bike.

As you may know, Mike Bomford and his family are moving to Vancouver next week.  Mike was one of the "founding fathers" of WalkBike Frankfort and responsible for much of the progress we've made in the last several years.  Please drop by the Coffeetree Cafe on Saturday after 3:30 pm to wish him farewell and safe travels.

Our biggest fundraiser of the year (actually the only one) is fast approaching.  The Governor's Autumn Bicycle Ride Across Kentucky (GABRAKY) sets off from General Butler State Park on October 2 and winds its way across the state to end at Dale Hollow Lake State Park four days later.  Volunteers are needed to assemble welcome packets; meet and greet riders at a reception at the Old Governor's Mansion; staff rest stops and shuttle riders and bikes as needed.  Please call Donna at 502-330-5835 or e-mail her at donnahecker@aol.com to offer your services.

And it's not too late to register to ride GABRAKY!  Registration for the four day ride or shorter options is available through September 15. Visit http://gabraky.com to sign up and see your state in a whole new light!

Wanna get your tweed on?  Our 2014 Tweed Ride will once again take place during the Candlelight festivities.  We're going for a steam-punk vibe this year; as in post-industrial revolution!  Stay in touch for more info.

Finally, don't forget that it takes all of us to make Frankfort the best city in the Commonwealth for walkers and bicycle riders.  If you haven't already, take a moment to become an official member of WalkBike Frankfort at www.walkbikefrankfort.com.  It's free!

Happy Trails from your WalkBike Board-

Donna Hecker, John Rodgers, Brent Sweger, Nathan Rome, Sellus Wilder and Stuart Harrod
