US 60 West Presentation Announcement

posted Jun 8, 2014, 12:08 PM by Nathan Rome   [ updated Jun 10, 2014, 5:44 PM ]
WalkBike Frankfort got wind recently of an opportunity in the not-too-distant future to add improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities to U.S. 60 West.  Naturally, the board and planning and implementation committee sprang into action and, with much assistance from Troy Hearn, prepared a draft proposal to share with the City Commission and KY Transportation Cabinet (KYTC).

Among other improvements, the draft calls for bike lanes and buffer zones to be added between Lafayette Dr. and U.S. 127 and construction of new ADA-compliant sidewalks along the same stretch of roadway.  The proposal also includes a request for crosswalks where none currently exist (such as at the entrance to Juniper Hills Park!).

After presenting our proposal to the City Commission at its June 9 work session, we'll make a copy available on our web site, www.walkbikefrankfort.org.  Please check it out and remember that we need your support to make this vision become reality!

Write or call Mayor May and Commissioners and tell them that you want Frankfort to be the best city in the Commonwealth for walkers and cyclists!  Tell them that when we make a community better for cyclists, we make it better for walkers, moms with strollers, wheelchair users and everyone else.  A bike friendly community is a healthier, wealthier place to live!
