WalkBike Frankfort and the Folkbike ReCyclery have teamed up with the Frankfort Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff's office and Red Head Custom Cakes to make safe bicycle riding a little sweeter for Frankfort's youth.
Kids who are observed wearing their helmets and riding their bikes safely will be issued a sugar pink citation good for a free cupcake or ice cream at Red Head Custom Cakes. Red Head Custom Cakes, owned by Rhonda Stevens, is located at 200 Broadway in downtown Frankfort.
As Stuart Harrod says, "We can fix your bike but not your head! Please wear a helmet every time you ride."
WalkBike Frankfort and the ReCyclery participated in last week's National Night Out event at Lakeview Park and gave away over 60 helmets to local kids. Every kid who got a free helmet signed a pledge to wear it while riding their bikes, scooters or skateboards.
The helmets were purchased with a grant from the Bluegrass Cycling Club and are part of a larger bicycle safety initiative that WalkBike and the ReCyclery are currently conducting.
