We’re often asked at Walk Bike Frankfort about those bits and pieces of trails and walkways that don’t seem to go anywhere. We always try to explain that there’s a master plan, which was adopted by both Frankfort and Franklin County, to connect all these paths.
That’s why we’re so excited that another puzzle piece has fallen into place! Ann Northcutt of the Franklin County Community Planning and Development office recently explained that the Stedmantown Lane mixed use path is nearly completed. This path connects Stedmantown Lane to Elkhorn Middle School and Franklin County High School and links Indian Hills with subdivisions on the other side of Georgetown Rd. It also provides increased access to Lakeview Park.
Ms. Northcutt praised the work of the folks at HMB Engineering, whom she said did a wonderful job with the design and planning of the path, and Colston Paving, which did the blacktopping work. Funding for the new path came from the U.S. Department of Transportation, through its Safe Routes to Schools program.
Let’s celebrate this vital new link in our community’s pedestrian and bicycling network and show our appreciation for Franklin County government! Get out there and go for a walk or a ride and thank your local elected officials for making it possible!
